Yes, OBW(?)'s Are Everywhere

NashvilleJoe and I stopped by to visit a cacher friend that we hadn't seen in quite some time and in our talk, we discovered she had just turned 60 not too long ago. Well, that qualifies her to be a member of our illustrious(?) group and she happily became our newest member. Didn't have an official membership card with us but promised to send it to her. Welcome, Sis.

A NEAR MISS OF OBW(?)'S

When I went to log my caches last night that we had done on Sunday, we discovered we were at the same place as the SnowbirdsVT that day. It would have been so neat if we could have met up.
Anyhow, we plan to meet up with the Hobos today in middle GA on our way back home to TN.

Medical Update #3

Our member who had surgery got a great report from his doctor yesterday-no chemo or radiation necessary. Isn't that a blessing? He and his sweet wife are continuing to rest and relax at home.

Friday, November 27, 2009

Medical Update #2

Our member who had surgery last week is resting at home with his care-giver wife. Please continue to remember both of them.

Medical update

One of our precious OBW(?)'s had surgery yesterday so please keep him and his wife in your thoughts and prayers. We can bind together as a team and get this fine man back on his feet and out caching again.

An OBW(?) Encounter

NashvilleJoe and I are on our way to Miami, Fl and knew there was an OBW(?) in Melbourne, so what do you do? You give him a call and he meets you in the Wally parking lot so we can visit for a short while. Will post a picture soon.

Hi to everyone

Sorry that I've been so lax in keeping our blog up but travel, sickness and those kind of things have gotten in the way.
I think I have the list all up-to-date now except for a few addresses that I need to get. Still have lots of pictures to post that I'll do soon.
Hope everyone is well and happy caching.

Successful Event in Kittery, Maine

Oh, did we have fun. There were 7 of us who were already card-carrying members and we recruited 8 more at the event today. Then there were 18 of those younger folks who aren't older but they might be wiser. Young and old had a great time and enjoyed our eating and meeting and greeting. Pictures will follow soon.

Add 2 more to our list

Can you believe I found 2 more OBW(?)'s in downtown Portland, Maine tonight? NashvilleJoe and I and Bulli the Wonder Dog (he's not an OBW(?) ) were doing a Wherigo cache and the couple we were with were just delightful. As our evening came to a close, I wondered if they were the right age to be in our group. How do you tactfully ask someone if they are 60? Well, I tried, "You aren't 60, are you?". He nodded and I invited him to be a member of this auspicious "club". I asked him about his wife, too, and he said she wasn't telling her age. Well, they both received official membership cards tonight-pictures will follow soon. It's Joe and Sue from New Jersey.

1st OBW(?) Event To Be Held

That's right-NashvilleJoe and AbbysGrammy are hosting the first EVER OBW(?) event.

GC1WQ93

It's going to be held on Wednesday, August 26 in Kittery, Maine so all of you OBW(?)'s load up now and head that way. We are going to be meeting at a place where you can get delicious lobster rolls, fried clams and scallops and a variety of other seafood as well as non seafood items.

Looking forward to seeing everyone-

Sharon

Add another member

Yes, it's official-Oleomi, who lives in Texarkana, TX, has reached that magic age to become an OBW(?). Will get a picture posted soon.

THE GROUP(only 25 of the 54 who were there)-GeoWoodstock 7 in Bell Buckle, TN-May 23, 2009

Here we are-and who is that big guy up in the back on the stage? Is he older or wiser?

More Pictures

Here's a few more-aren't we pretty? We're older, wiser(?) and pretty/handsome.

Found 2 More

Actually talked to the Grandfolks at the event on Thursday night and told them about OBW(?)'s but never saw them again over the weekend. Enlisted them since they got home but they were there in Bell Buckle, too so we OFFICIALLY had 54 members represented at GeoWoodstock 7. That was a great showing. Wouldn't it have been neat if all 54 could have been in the same picture? That wasn't possible for various reasons but here are pictures for you to enjoy:

Even More Official

Found out yesterday that another OBW(?) couple were at GeoWoodstock 7 and I never saw them so that takes the count to 52.
In your remembrances, we also have a member who had a new pacemaker put in over the weekend and is going home today.
Everyone keep us posted on where you are and how you are.

IT'S OFFICIAL (I THINK)

I've checked my lists and checked them again and it looks like we had 50 OBW(?)'s this past weekend at GW 7. We didn't everyone into one picture but I tried to get pictures of everyone at one time or the other. Will get them posted as soon as I get them developed(I haven't gone digital yet). Hope everyone got home safely or having safe travels if you are still on the road.
Please remember an OBW(?) who recently had knee surgery, another who had hip surgery and another who had a slight stroke.

OBW(?)'s Made a great show at GeoWoodstock

Wow-did we ever have a great group there in Bell Buckle, TN this past Sat. I think there were around 45 in attendance but I haven't gotten to my records yet to get a correct count. I'm exhausted but it was worth every minute of it. Thanks to everyone who came for the picture at 11 AM in front of the stage and I tried to get pictures of those who didn't make the picture or who were enlisted later. Pictures to come soon.

OBW(?) Goes International

You read it correctly-we have out first international members. Tammo and Doris Hadeler are from Bremen, Germany and we made their acquaintance several years ago at another GeoWoodstock. This year Doris was unable to come but Tammo is here and has become the newest member of our group. If you are coming to Bell Buckle tomorrow (May 23) be sure to welcome him.
See you at the welcome sign tomorrow at 11:00 AM.

ooopppsssss!!!!!!

There were actually 11 of us plus 2 members at the event last evening. I forgot RKLMBL from Ark. who dropped in for a quick visit. This number ties the 13 we had together at the Hobos 10 K event in Crossville, TN a while back. I also recruited another couple last night but will get back with them on Sat. at the BIG!!!!! event-hope I can find them.
The ones I did recruit and present membership cards to were:
Judy Gordon from DeLand, FL who caches with her daughter
Libby Morehead (gmalibby) from Centralia, MO

OBW(?)'S Invade Nashville and GeoWoodstock7

9 of us plus 2 new members attended the first official event of the GeoWoodstock 7 weekend. There will probably be others to be enlisted before all the festivities are over. Pictures to follow.

It's Happened Again

TEAM SNOOK is visiting in Nashville for GeoWoodstock and staying with NashvilleJoe and AbbysGrammy and we all attended an event in Springfield, TN last evening. Yes, we were eating again-catfish this time and was it ever good. Pictures to come soon.

Have heard from several of you about your plans for coming to GeoWoodstock 7 (or not) but still would like to hear from more of you. You can send me private e-mail if you would prefer:

ARE YOU COMING TO GW 7?

I've had e-mail back from several OBW(?)'s in response to my last mass mail-out to everyone. Looks like we are going to have quite a few at GeoWoodstock 7 in Bell Buckle, TN on the 23rd. We are going to meet at the welcome sign (wherever that is)about 11:00 and meet and greet and have our picture taken around 11:30. Safe travels to everyone who is heading this way and if you can't come, we'll really miss you. Maybe next year? Joe and I hope to meet more of you during our travels over the next year. Don't be surprised if we e-mail you when we are getting near you and ask if we can meet up for a "cuppa".
It's been so wet here in middle Tenn the past month. We are about to get materials to build an ark this past week. The good part is that everything is green and so pretty. It probably also means we are going to have a bumper crop of chiggers and ticks all summer. That's why NashvilleJoe and I and Bulli the Wonder Dog don't bushwhack during the summer.
Let me hear from you. Still looking for more write-ups on the blog plus pictures.

It's a small world

We met up with the HAPPY2WANDERS (Renee and Wally Stephens in Tijeras, NM, about three weeks ago. We are been traveling the same places for around three weeks now. We are in Shawnee, OK now and will part tomorrow going our separate ways. We have had a good time sharing Geocaching finds and DNF's at the end of each day. It's been fun spending time with them.

New to the site

Finally made it into the Blog. Now we have to find out how to do it!!

Team Nab & GW7 - OBW(?) Photo Op

Welcome home to Team Nab. We are so happy that everything went well for Sharon this time around and Team Nab is back in Tennessee and will be able to roll on down to GW7.

Great idea to meet at the welcoming banner. It should be large enough that even the most senile and sight impaired of us should be able to find it. Count us in. Can't wait to meet OBW(?)s we don't know and see those that we do know and haven't visited with for a while.

See all y'all soon.

GeoWoodstock 7-LOOK OUT!!!!! HERE COME THE OBW(?)'s

You bet we'll get together for chit-chat and a picture while in Bell Buckle. How about if we gather at 11:00 AM at the welcoming banner and have our picture taken? I'm not sure exactly where that is but look for it when you get there. It looks like there may be 20-25 of us there-can't wait to see everyone. I'm hoping to enlist even a few more people before that time. Safe travels to everyone and see you there.
Here's out cell number if you need to call us: 615-498-3703

Another chance(?) meeting?

No, it wasn't a chance meeting. We knew where OBW(?) members rklmbl lived and planned our trip home to Tennesse to drop by and see them. That's what it's all about. Had a lovely visit, a great meal Monday night and then "broke bread" over breakfast this morning before heading on towards home. Will post a picture soon.

Phoenix Area OBWs/Geo-Woodstock Gathering

Hi All. At a recent geo-event here in Phoenix, we met up with some good friends and fellow OBW members, TD Lover & Miner_85. We're all going to Geo-Woodstock and I know other OBW members plan to attend too.  Wouldn't it be grand if we could all get together sometime Saturday to meet, get a group photo and to check on Abby's Grammy to be sure she is getting back on her feet after the hip operation? If anyone is interested or has suggestions on how and when we can accomplish this, post here or contact us at wallybaz@cox.net. Thanks.........Lookin'Good

It's Happened Again

You just never know when OBW(?)'s are going to meet up. NashvilleJoe and AbbysGrammy had the privilege of being visited by TEAM SNOOK on their way thru town today. We had a nice Chinese meal together and then sent them on their way west. Caches are calling them out in the Abilene area. Pictures to follow.

This is what it looks like to be 100!!

Well, that may stretch the credibility a little bit! There are no Centigenarians in this picture or post! What we DO have, however, is our number 100 OBW(?) member! Welcome to TaterSalad, Pat Davis, of Antioch, TN, who has that lucky number! We've known Pat for sometime as a fellow cacher, but he was "discovered" at a local event a couple of weeks ago. Welcome, TaterSalad!

AREN'T WE PRETTY?

Hope you like all the pictures we posted. Why does it seem that many of our meetings/greetings are around the eating table? I think that's pretty wise, myself.
Looking for more people to post their story on here for everyone to enjoy.

TD Lover - OBW Update

TD Lover is now an OBW(?) with no previous picture. She sent us this picture of her while she was traveling. Can any of you car nuts guess what her favorite ride may be??

OBW Member Update

I'M HAVING THAT HIP REPLACED ON MAR 24, SO WITH REHAB, ETC, THERE'S A CHANCE WE MIGHT MAKE IT TO GEOWOODSTOCK. USUALLY, WE HEAD NORTH IN EARLY MAY, BUT THIS TIME MAY BE DIFFERENT.

MEANWHILE, I HIT MY 100TH FIND IN IRELAND IN SEPTEMBER! GREAT FUN! A PAL SENT ME A PICTURE OF IT, SO IF I CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO SCAN IT INTO MY COMPUTER, I'LL SEND A COPY.

WE'RE HEADING TO LAS VEGAS THIS WEEKEND, SO HOPE TO DO SOME (EASY) CACHING OUT THERE AGAIN. LAST YEAR, WE ADDED UTAH, NEVADA, ARIZONA AND CALIFORNIA TO OUR LIST OF STATES CACHED.

HAPPY CACHING! HOPE TO SEE YOU IN MAY.

We Did It!!!!!!! The 100th OBW(?) Was Found Today

I knew it wouldn't be long before we had our 100th member. Joe and I were at an event this afternoon and talking to those sitting around us. I mentioned this group that we had that was for cachers over 60. A nice guy across the table said he was eligible for the group. I said "no way". Well, he pulled out his driver's license and I "carded" him and sure enough, we was eligible so I handed him a membership card and said he was our 100th member. It is Pat Davis (aka Tatorsalad) from Antioch, TN. You'll see him at GeoWoodstock in Bell Buckle, TN on May 23 so we sure to be there where we'll have a special meeting for all of us. Will post a picture soon.

Lookin'Good with Hobo & His Dream

We had a surprise meeting with another OBW couple while attending a big geoevent in Yuma, AZ. We had seen that Hobo & His Dream had posted a "will attend" so we were on the lookout for them.   Despite the large crowd, lunch and many activities, we did track them down, had a nice chat and managed to snap a picture.  We hope to run into them again -- possibly at GeoWoodstock this summer.

We're at 99-who will be our 100th member?

Now I don't mean any of us are 99 years old but our OBW(?) group has 99 members in it now. I was hoping to hit 100 by GeoWoodstock in May but maybe that will happen before then. Do you have any caching friends who would want to become a member? Just let me know.
I'm sending out membership cards to the newest members tomorrow and I've also worked on the list of members here on the blog site. Hopefully you'll use it to look up OBW(?)'s wherever you are traveling.
I'm going to be going back down to Plano, TX on March 16 for further hip surgery on march 23. I'd appreciate your thoughts and prayers during our trip and the approximately 6weeks we'll be down there. Our goal is to be back here at home in middle Tenn by May 1 so we can attend GeoWoodstock 7 on May 23. Check out this HUGE!!!!! geocaching event (GC1CG5G) and see if you can work it into your schedule. I've heard from quite a few OBW(?)'s who plan to come and maybe we can have our own meet & greet right there. It will be so nice to meet everyone.
Joe and I still have some pictures to post so will try to get that done within the next few days. I'm still hoping more of you will post your stories on here so we can know you and learn how you got into this sport and also what you are doing these days. If you are having any problems trying to post anything, you can send your write-up to NashvilleJoe and he'll post it for you.
Hope all of you have a great spring-yes, I think spring will be coming to all of us soon. It really has been a cold winter here in middle Tenn this year so we are anxiously waiting for warmer weather.
If your travels take you anywhere near Plano, TX while we are down there March 18-May 1, please let us know. We'd love to see you.

From Two Old Crows to Two OBW(?)s

In mid 2004 the decrepit crow read an article about Geocaching and went on-line to investigate. We had a big, cluncky Street Pilot in our vehicle he decided he could go Geocaching using it and created his account as mgbdon. He would hop in the van and disappear for hours, then come back and report on what he found. The delicate crow decided to tag along and see what it was all about. After a while we both got tired of lugging the Street Pilot over the rivers and through the woods. One day the older crow fell down a rock embankment, smashing the screen against the rocks. Bad, and good. Now we had an excuse to make a quick trip to purchase a hand-held GPSr and get back to the woods. We continued caching for months, but decided if there were two of us we should change our screen name to reflect that fact and buy a second GPSr (well, I think the delicate crow decided that). Thus we became the Two Old Crows.

Every now and then we would meet up with other Geocachers at a cache site, as when we met TheHobos who later introduced us to AbbysGrammy, Nashville Joe and Bulli the Wonder Dog. One thing led to another and before you know it we were meeting up more often. On one of these occasions Sharon told us about an idea she had for forming a group so the older but wiser Geocachers would have a reason to meet and greet and stay in touch. The no rules, no dues, no meetings, no responsibilities aspects made it sound very enticing, especially for oldies like us that don't like to do much, so we signed on.

One day an e-mail came from Sharon saying Hobo & His Dream were RVing in the area, so lets get together for the premier, non-organizational, no-meeting, no-minutes, no roll call, first annual (maybe) gathering of the OBW(?)s. Wow, we couldn't pass that up. This first unofficial non-event was held at Spankies eatery in Cookeville and attended by AbbysGrammy, Nashville Joe, TheHobos, Hobo & His Dream and Two Old Crows. Bulli attended from the Geovanni. Now, we fully believe that Bulli's dog years qualify him to officially join the group, but it seems that a lot of our non-meetings are in eateries that won't welcome him. In fact, we remember an impromptu non-meeting at Cracker Barrel in Crossville, another at Steak & Shake in Cookeville--wait a minute--is this why we're all gaining weight?

We are posting 2 photos since invariably someone is hiding behind some else or has their eyes closed or is looking the other way, and we didn't want you to miss seeing everyone who attended the auspicious premier non-meeting event.

Cheers to Sharon for the imagination and enthusiasm she has put into forming this fun group and enlisting new members. You've come a long way, baby, from that first non-meeting of 8 of us. Thanks also to Joe and Bulli whose support for Sharon allows her to go off in 10 different directions at once without getting lost.

Hope to meet the over 100 members there will be by the time GeoWoodstock VII convenes.

Happy caching, everyone.
Don & Andrea

96 and Counting

Our numbers have grown to 96 now and we should be able to hit 100 by the time of GeoWoodstock 7 on May 23 in Bell Buckle, TN. Hope alot of you will be able to make this mega event. We'll try for the largest meeting of OBW(?)'s ever in history (doubt if it will be worthy of the Guiness World Record but we can still have fun). Put it on your calendars and try to be there.

More members

We add another couple to our group:
Kayce&Fox from Melbourne, FL

Still looking for more folks to post their stories on here along with pictures. If you want us to do it, please e-mail your info to us and we'll post for you.

Hope those of you in cold areas are keeping warm.

Hello from the Sunshine State

I happened to run into Sharon and Joe one day in Tennessee a few years back and they told me about this 'Club' that I might enjoy.....OBW(?).....being affiliated with. Sharon said there would be absolutely NO rules and NO officers and NO directors and NO meetings and NO committees and NO dues! I figured she was running a fever but Joe said that they had been giving this 'Club' some thought and that if I was interested, they would like me to join. I liked the sound of the NO rules and NO dues and decided to sign up for a membership card. Naturally, there were NO membership cards at the time because there were NO members.

I'm thinking, "This is my kind of club"! Well, it turns out I've met many of the OBW(?) "members" and they're about the friendliest bunch of folks around. Granted, they're OLD but they're lots of fun to spend time with. My wife is not old enough to join the group yet but since there are NO rules, I let her come to a few of the dinners if she pays. I'll be collecting Social Security in a few months so maybe I'll be able to afford to take her out to dinner soon.

Our geo-nick is Cache & Keri and our names are Mike and Joan. We live in Melbourne, Florida and enjoy living in the warm weather along the Space Coast.

BTW, I finally got my Older But Wiser(?) card and it says I'm a Charter Member.....pretty cool!

Back Home Again

We're back home after spending a few days in Houston and the gulf coast area. It was so pretty down there, blue skies and shirt-sleeved weather. When we headed north today it became overcast and drizzly and now it is around freezing. We'll spend the next few weeks enjoying our time at home before we head back down to TX for another hip surgery on March 23(I'll even have the joy of spending my birthday in the hospital-28th). That's all for now.

New Members

NashvilleJoe and I are in Houston on our way home to TN (yes, that's quite a long round-about way to go) and attended 2 geocaching events. We had the privilege of enlisting 3 new members to this illustrious group:
TwoDogKnight
bentlandem
All 3 are from the Houston area. Will post pictures soon.
Also enlisted GreyWolf( a few weeks ago) who lives in Idaho and will get a picture of him soon.

Come on all you OBW(?)'s-post your pictures on here and tell us how you got into geocaching and where you are and what you are doing now.

Sharon (abbysgrammy)

Visiting

We had the great privilege of meeting Eagleyes and husband from northern MN on their way to sunny Florida in search of warmer weather. We met for dinner on their overnight stay in Nashville. Will post a picture soon.
