Hello from the Sunshine State

I happened to run into Sharon and Joe one day in Tennessee a few years back and they told me about this 'Club' that I might enjoy.....OBW(?).....being affiliated with. Sharon said there would be absolutely NO rules and NO officers and NO directors and NO meetings and NO committees and NO dues! I figured she was running a fever but Joe said that they had been giving this 'Club' some thought and that if I was interested, they would like me to join. I liked the sound of the NO rules and NO dues and decided to sign up for a membership card. Naturally, there were NO membership cards at the time because there were NO members.

I'm thinking, "This is my kind of club"! Well, it turns out I've met many of the OBW(?) "members" and they're about the friendliest bunch of folks around. Granted, they're OLD but they're lots of fun to spend time with. My wife is not old enough to join the group yet but since there are NO rules, I let her come to a few of the dinners if she pays. I'll be collecting Social Security in a few months so maybe I'll be able to afford to take her out to dinner soon.

Our geo-nick is Cache & Keri and our names are Mike and Joan. We live in Melbourne, Florida and enjoy living in the warm weather along the Space Coast.

BTW, I finally got my Older But Wiser(?) card and it says I'm a Charter Member.....pretty cool!

Back Home Again

We're back home after spending a few days in Houston and the gulf coast area. It was so pretty down there, blue skies and shirt-sleeved weather. When we headed north today it became overcast and drizzly and now it is around freezing. We'll spend the next few weeks enjoying our time at home before we head back down to TX for another hip surgery on March 23(I'll even have the joy of spending my birthday in the hospital-28th). That's all for now.

New Members

NashvilleJoe and I are in Houston on our way home to TN (yes, that's quite a long round-about way to go) and attended 2 geocaching events. We had the privilege of enlisting 3 new members to this illustrious group:
TwoDogKnight
bentlandem
All 3 are from the Houston area. Will post pictures soon.
Also enlisted GreyWolf( a few weeks ago) who lives in Idaho and will get a picture of him soon.

Come on all you OBW(?)'s-post your pictures on here and tell us how you got into geocaching and where you are and what you are doing now.

We had the great privilege of meeting Eagleyes and husband from northern MN on their way to sunny Florida in search of warmer weather. We met for dinner on their overnight stay in Nashville. Will post a picture soon.

OREGON400T

We have just upgraded to a Garmin Oregon 400T. So far it is very user friendly, like the idea of paperless caching, and being able to get the cache directly from the cache page into the Garmin from the computer and the touch screen.

How we got into caching

I've never done a Blog in my life, so this may all be in vain.
We were dragged into caching kicking and screaming, May, 2004.
One very warm summer evening our oldest son and family pull into the drive and said, "Let's go caching"! We knew nothing of this, we were computer illiterate, never saw a GPS in our lives and only understood the word from what we read or saw on the telly.
"What do you mean walk in the woods and hunt for what? We camp, but, I was getting older and was in no mood to tackle salty sweat that drew bugs and mosquitoes. We declined.
The following weekend we were camping with family and friends and after we were set up, our son puts a GPS in Hubby's hands and says follow it to the cache in VOLO Bogs near where we were camping. We did and it was my first encounter with poison ivy....ever! Also downed, rusted, barb wire fencing. We were eaten alive. We were hot, sweaty and I really knew I needed a shower.
For most people that would have finished it. Not us! We bought a Little Blue Garmin. Now, I found myself trailing Hubby and he was having all the fun finding caches. After much discussion, I inherited the Little Blue Garmin and he bought himself a Garmin Rhino. From there we realized his Rhino had a radio and if we had two, We could keep track of each other in the woods, etc., plus Co-ords could be sent from one to the other. We recently sent both in for repair and ended up with two reconditioned ones. Mine was in extreme need of repair as it has taken a dip in a river along with me (Not planned) rubber worn off and bare metal exposed. Both rhinos had tape holding pieces on. I even used glue on the aerial because the rubber guard had cracked in half.
Are we Cache fanatics?? You decide.
